If anyone were to ask me what’s my favourite spot to grab coffee, I’d probably start off going down a list of artisan places, like Starlings; where everything fromm the mug, to the environment and setting is restful and overall, an enjoyable experience.
But midway through this point, I’d pause and think; if I’m looking for consistency and it’s not a day I am wanting to stomach disappointment, I’d shift my option from adventurous experience to trusted comfort. And in this case, I’d immediately choose to drive to my nearest Seattle and say, “one grande Latte please!”.
Seattle is a brand I’ve loved for a very long time. Their consistency in their taste but also customer experience is something to admire. There is something so comforting in knowing what we are in for.
And this, right here, is the beauty of a brand.
One of my favourite definitions of brand is this: the promise to your customer that you continually work to keep, knowing that you are the only one able to deliver on it.
Branding is consistency and in this you gain trust. It is a long-term strategy that is internal as equally external in it’s nature. It forms a foundation upon which you build out content, create value, develop new products and services and communicate with your audience.
As you consider building your brand, remember that it is not just a visual representation of who you are – although this should not be down-played. It’s important to see all the elements interact with each other rather than silos.
These are some key elements to your brand:
- Position
- Promise
- Personality
- Story
- Association
- Identity
